Semen Banking

Semen bank or often a sperm bank is a sperm donation facility. It’s a service that provides facility of collecting and storing human semen that usually are acquired from male partners and from sperm donors.

Couples preparing for IVF may need to store semen specimens in advance of the procedure. Others may want to freeze semen due to upcoming cancer therapy, military service, occupational risks, or for other personal reasons. No long term effects have been identified in babies born from frozen sperm, nor do they have a higher rate of birth defects. Couples who have had difficulty getting pregnant have had success conceiving with eggs or sperm that have been frozen using our lab and cryopreservation techniques.

Some men may have a very low sperm count or no sperm for a variety of reasons. In these cases, donor sperm insemination may be an appropriate treatment option. At Babysoon, we run a large sperm donor bank and all our sperm donors are carefully screened and have full medical histories taken. The sperm is frozen and quarantined prior to use. All patients undergoing insemination with donor sperm will be encouraged to use our counselling service, to fully explore the implications of this, before making any decisions.
