Assisted Laser Hatching

Assisted hatching is a laboratory technique which helps IVF or ICSI-created embryos to hatch and to allow the embryo to ‘hatch out’ through the treated area. The procedure is carried out just before the embryos are transferred to the woman’s uterus. Pregnancy cannot occur unless the human embryo hatches.

At Babysoon hospital, we offer laser assisted hatching for patients who have undergone repeated treatments without conceiving, and/or in cases where the woman is over 37 years of age. We also recommend that thawed embryos be treated with laser assisted hatching. It is our experience that thawed embryos have difficulty attaching to the womb. The likelihood of improved chances for pregnancy is assessed medically before recommending laser assisted hatching. At Babysoon Hospital, we carefully assess the possible benefits of assisted hatching for each patient before considering the process as part of any treatment plan. The possible use of the procedure is discussed with the patient in advance of the embryo transfers and written consent must be given to use assisted hatching.
